CarFax vs. AutoCheck: Four More Examples

We keep finding the same pattern. Here are four more vehicles where CarFax caught damage that AutoCheck missed entirely.

A few months ago, we published a post on CarFax vs AutoCheck, showing four vehicles where CarFax reported damage that AutoCheck did not. In three of the four cases, both reports were pulled on the same day, and all four were pulled within the same month. The conclusion was straightforward: when a dealership only provides an AutoCheck, you may not be getting the full picture.

We said at the time that our four-car sample wasn't a comprehensive study. We've since added four more to the list. Cases five, six, seven, and eight. Same pattern, different cars.

The views expressed here are our opinion, based on our experience, and do not represent a comprehensive comparison of CarFax and AutoCheck services. It is our opinion that CarFax provides more complete vehicle history information, but we encourage you to conduct your own due diligence before purchasing a vehicle.

Four more examples. Same result.

Both reports were pulled on the same day for each vehicle. In every case, the AutoCheck came back clean. In every case, the CarFax showed damage with a specific incident date.

If a dealership provides an AutoCheck, ask them to pull a CarFax. If they won't, that's worth noting. If only an AutoCheck is available, we buy a CarFax report for our clients before they buy the car, because we've seen firsthand what an AutoCheck alone can miss.

If you're buying on your own and want a second set of eyes on a CarFax report, we offer a standalone CarFax review service. We'll pull the report and walk through it with you. You can reach us at yourcarhaggler.com/contact.

A CarFax report is one of the cheapest things you'll spend money on in a used car transaction. We haven't regretted pulling a single one.

When you are ready for a new or used car, we'll help you do it the smart way, not the dealership's way.
